Manchester is a host city in England’s 2018 FIFA World Cup™ bid

Manchester is proud to stake a claim for a share of the glory if the football World Cup comes to England. Our bid to become a host city has been led by Manchester City Council, with strong support from both Manchester City and Manchester United football clubs, from Salford City Council and Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, and from the police, the transport authority and Marketing Manchester.

Manchester has a rich sporting heritage, a reputation for attracting national and international events and a passion for sport at community level. Football is in our blood, and we have demonstrated the strength of our bid by asking as many people as possible to pledge their support for Manchester.
