Special offers

Matchday in the cityPublished

Special offers were the commercial tie-ins that ran alongside the programme: museum and stadium tours, behind-the-scenes access and reader deals negotiated with the attractions that wanted a sporting audience.

They have expired, and that is the point of keeping them — the shape of an offer tells you who a sporting city thinks its visitors are, and here it is plainly the football tourist. The wording stands as it was sold. How venues and operators buy that attention now is covered in Business.
