Visit Manchester is the tourist board for Greater Manchester. It was created in January 2008 and is a division of Marketing Manchester, the agency charged with promoting the city on a national and international stage.
Visit Manchester promotes the city as a leading leisure, learning and business tourist destination to national and international visitors, provides strategic leadership to the tourism industry within the city-region and co-ordinates a number of tourism development opportunities to enable the industry to provide a first class product to visitors.
It also aims to provide the visitor with everything they need to research, plan and enjoy a trip to Manchester by providing industry-leading visitor services.
Sport continues to be a key slipstream brand for Manchester and is a unique selling point for the city. Manchester’s recognition through the Gold SportBusiness Sport City Award 2008 earned The Manchester World Sport 08 campaign a solid foundation to develop a lasting sports legacy.
A series of high profile sporting events will continue in the region between 2009 and 2012. Subsequently, Manchester World Sport will continue to promote sport and sporting events in the lead up to 2012.
Visit Manchester’s aim to communicate spectator and participatory sporting events, venues, attractions and recreational activities for the unique sports experience should effectively generate and increase the duration of visits to Manchester and the Northwest.
The Manchester World Sport campaign has been developed by Visit Manchester, Manchester City Council and the Northwest Development agency.
