BetMGM and FanDuel Lead September’s Best Sports Betting Apps Rankings
16 September 2026
For the third consecutive month, the September 2023 sports betting app rankings spotlight two titans: BetMGM and FanDuel. Across a mix of popular outlets, these two platforms consistently earn top honors. However, which one comes out on top tends to depend on what you value most in a sports betting app.
Best BetMGM, for Depth and Sizzle
BetMGM repeats as the top overall user experience and sports betting app from Covers, Yahoo Sports, and Sports Illustrated. Freep singles it out for the best "Edit My Bet" feature, the deepest props market, and user-friendly desktop experience. Athlon notes that BetMGM is the best one-stop shop for sports betting enthusiasts.
The Secret Sauce: Rewards and Prop Markets
A big part of BetMGM's ascent is its rewards ecosystem. Each BetMGM user gets an MGM Rewards card that unlocks freebies and perks across the hotel-casino's dozens of properties. Betting at the MGM Sportsbook nets rewards points that can be redeemed for show tickets, dining, and other experiences. Director of digital sports betting Joel Kerwha says this ecosystem makes BetMGM's "without a doubt the best loyalty program".
But BetMGM's MGM ecosystem is just one feature. The company distinguished itself early on for stacking its sportsbook with a vast number of prop markets, while most competitors limited theirs, making it ideal for bettors who like to profit by building parlays on a multitude of deep, but independent, markets.
All that adds up to an industry-leading rating of 4.8 on the iOS App Store and 4.4 for Android, according to Goal. That's exceeded only by FanDuel. But for overall app ranking, BetMGM places 3rd at RotoWire and Action Network.
FanDuel: The Front Runner for First-Time Users
Though BetMGM ascends to the top spot, FanDuel reigns supreme as the top app for beginners in at least three major sports media rankings. It's the #1 download on iOS and Android charts, and the praises flow for great value and consistency in performance.

"New sports bettors will find FanDuel's sportsbook dead simple," says Brian Kohlberg, senior writer at SportsHandle. "If you're new to sports betting, this is a terrific place to start."
Though the sportsbook only tweaked its interface this year, FanDuel excels in same-game parlay markets. FanDuel's interface allows bettors to combine actions from one game into creative parlays with extensive market options. Athlon calls the feature "professional-grade," and Kohlberg describes the combination options as "innovative."
To The Fore
Despite the competition, BetMGM has locked itself in as a front runner in the sports betting domain, leading in most of the nation's industry polls. And though some other operators consistently challenge BetMGM - Fanatics for newcomers and innovation, bet365 for favorite leagues and odds - BetMGM's prop markets and rewards program keep it at the top for serious bettors.
FanDuel, meanwhile, gains a following for its fantastic all-around platform, standing out for its user-friendliness and full market coverage. Action Network's broad market analysis enables superior predictive depth, making it great for competitive bettors. Though not featured in SportsHandle's Best Apps of 2023, Kohlberg says "FanDuel offers the best combination of options, contests, and props - making it the most well-rounded mobile sports betting platform."
